Today’s shirt dates from late 2001 to 2002 season of Conquest Racing in the IRL Racing league. 2002 being the last year of the IRL was Conquest’s only year in the series. Owned by !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , Conquest ran an Oldsmobile powered Dallara driven by !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

The team ran its first IRL races in the last two races of 2001. They then ran the 15 races and finished 12th in the points in 2002 and Redon was awarded rookie of the year. After that, Laurent returned to France to compete in various endurance series.

I am assuming the shirt is from the 2001 season last two races as my shirt shows Oldsmobile power. I see in 2002 the team ran Infinity power .

This leads to an interesting story and read as legendary master engine builder Ed Pink ran the underfunded Infinity IRL racing engine program during those years. Learn about Ed here.

I’ve got some Newman-Haas shirts from the mid to late 90's when they had Mansel, Andretti and Fittapaldi. The first one was DKNY band and then they picked up K-Mart as a sponsor and the second one was Route 66 brand... Then I got a Rahall Letterman shirt with Shell logo, everyone thinks I work at a gas station when I wear that one.

That was back when I had a dial up modem and little internet use. I recalled that he ran Infinity Racing Engine Program (which only lasted a couple of years)and that there was huge respect for him. I probably read about it in Autoweek. A t the pre internet time I thought “who the heck is Ed Pink”.....

Yep, he’s the only Indy rookie of the year to not return the next season. Of course it was 2003 a time of tight budgets, And I believe IRL transitioned to new cars, though Conquest racing went on. And also he had a baby girl.

He bounced around in the business though. https://clever-geek.github.io/articles/4611257/index.html
